My previous post asked question whether we should prepare ourselves for 10,000 a liter petrol. Now it’s time to start to think how to save fuel. Not only it reduce the money you spent on gas, it is also good for our planet. Here’s some links:
Here are some of my tips for Phnom Penh drivers:
- Avoid traffic jam by planning your route before you leave home. Choosimg smaller road can help you avoid traffic jam.
- Drive too fast and too slow are bad for fuel economy, so try to stay at average speed.
- Avoid driving when you go places nearby. Most of people who live in Phnom Penh would drive even if it is just a few hundred meters. For example if you plan to go shopping at Sorya and central market, park your car at Sorya then walk to Central market. Not only that it save you fuel, also you can burn some calorie too.
- Avoid traffic jam by choosing the right time to leave home. Most street are jammed at 8.00 am and 5.00 pm, so to avoid jam go to work early or and try to avoid coming back from work at 5pm.
- Stop at traffic light, most of Phnom Penh driver would just go whether it is green or red. But they do not realize the time they spend in traffic jam waste more gas then the time they stop at red light.
- Use to wheels instead. I know it’s hot and roads are dusty.
These tips can help you save 20 to 30 percent of fuel, so you can spend your hard-earned money one something else more important.

Because of the soaring gas price, so that it is hard to save money. By the way, the traffic jams are not only the main street, but also the small ones as well. I am bored of the traffic jam on the morning and evening, and then i try to take a detour to small street but the crowded cars and vehicles are running through streets in order to avoid the traffic congestions. But that is good for me because i drive motorcycle. Hehehe

Good Choice Vutha but better be careful thu……almost everywhere (the world) have this traffic problems especially during rush hours. As I have seen,PP people don’t like walking at all…..a nearly by place as 500m, they catch the mototaxi or even drive the motorcycle…. good advises you have there.
