Internet in Cambodia is a premium service, not any one can afford to have internet connection. Although it is still expensive, the price comes down recently. 3.5G HSDPA technology has made mobile internet available in Cambodia. Nowadays there are two plan for unlimited mobile internet:

  1. Mfone: 2 option, first $25 weekly or $88 monthly it is expensive that if you compare to DSL it is cheaper since HSDPA give you download speed of up to 3.6 mbps. These option can be activated at Mfone’s office.
  2. Hello’s blackberry plan: this plan targets corporate users because the very high cash deposit ($500 + $300 +50 according to a Hello staff that explain to me) you have to make with the company. However this plan costs only $68 a month for unlimited data usage and you’ll get a new blackberry phone.
  3. Cellcard 3G unlimited: Not available anymore to new users but you’re lucky enough to own one of these SIM card, you get the best of 3G service in Phnom Penh. At only $44 a month you’ll get unlimited internet usage.

Yes these plans are unlimited, if you can figure out a way to share it with your family it becomes a cheaper option, 3.6mbps is more than enough to use alone. Although the HSDPA offer 3.6mbps, at average you can get up to 1.8 mbps (it is still much better than DSL in Cambodia).

  1. Cambodia Unique Says:

    Dear,

Mfone 3G unlimited SIM card is not good. You test it, you will know. Speed is slower than MobiTel.

Cellcard 3G unlimited are not available for sale now but buy from existing customer. Just change ownership from the owner to you.

  2. samneang Says:

    Hi all,
Yes, I’ve seen my friends use Mfone 3G and they told me it’s slower than Mobitel 3G another thing Mfone is unreasonable when they switch from one promotion to another, they won’t care about their customers.

About Mobitel unlimited 3G, It’s not available now but you can change the owner. I used to contact some Mobitel’s guy and they told me that SIM cost $310 + $100(deposit) + $40(first monthly fee) = $450. But you can take $100 back when you stop using it.

    Chheer! :)

  3. Passerby Says:

Just curious. What download speeds do you get with MFONE, Hello, or Mobitel 3g?

I currently have the blackberry plan. Browsing is pretty fast, but downloading, I get only 30kbps max.

  4. borin Says:

that is not fast. i got 300 kbps most of the time.

  5. hhs Says:

    Hi all,

What about qb provider? I think qb also provide 3G service too…

  6. borin Says:

QB is expensive and the coverage is not good.

  7. samneang ????? Says:

Yes, qb is expensive and has no unlimited download with price lower than $40 per month.
As I want to say, if you all can get the old 3G SIM of Mobitel to use for your own business, you will get quite great benefit!

  8. vuth Says:

Can you tell me how to connect to internet with cellcard 3g unlimited?
and i do have cellcard 3g sim.

  9. vuth Says:

and one more question is it still unlimited like before?
cuz you say you get unlimited data access right?

  10. vuth Says:

  11. borin Says:

You can’t now, but you can get some one to sell you the unlimited sim card.

    here’s a quick setting: apn:3g
    username: mobitel
    password: mobitel

  12. vuth Says:

  13. borin Says:

  14. vuth Says:

Use all i can??? are you Post-paid or pre-paid user???
and i thought you said they charge 44 $

  15. borin Says:

I am post paid user. they charge me $44 monthly.

  16. vuth Says:

Really?? but there isnt that kind of service now.
    they only have 9$, 24$’, and 40$
i ask them if they have 44$ plan and they say no.
Do you know why that is??

  17. borin Says:

Yes they have 40 plus 4 VAT

  18. vuth Says:

    What is VAT?????
and it seen like they are limited plan.(about 400mb download)

  19. vuth Says:

and they need 50$ deposit too. :(

  20. Dara Says:

    Hi Borin

  21. sam Says:

well tell us more on here

    thanks !

i really need to know and other people to

    regards

    sam

  22. borin Says:

hi, at night it is some thing like 300 KBPS which mean one minute I download maybe 16megabytes.

At day I can get somewhere around 150-200 easily.

  23. daka Says:

what can i know my 3G sim have unlimited internet or not what can i do before my sim used call public

  24. daka Says:

I have Mfone 3G is used 1month 88$ but i can’t shared 3 or 4 PC is can used only 1 what can i do I used with modem 7.2Mb

  25. jeudy Says:

who still use internet on mobitel 3g? would u like to sell it?

  26. Jon Doe Says:

From what I know all new cellcard 3g sims are not unlimited and can get very expensive if youre not carefull. If you had an old unlimited account and missed a payment by just a day they switched you to the Non Unlimeted plan without telling you and you were hit with a huge bill. I have a few friends who this happened to so beware of this if you are buying a sim from someone else. Im not sure of the rate but everyone I know whos had Cellcard 3g has given it up due to cost.

  27. George Says:

I use Mfone 3G which came with a Surfstick for 88$ for a week. I bought the stick for 88$ and and there was a week free for unlimited use.
First of all it’s NOT 3G Speed and no way HSDPA. I did a speed test several times and download was never more than 280kbps. For example this morning

    Last Result:
Download Speed: 196 kbps (24.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 250 kbps (31.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
    Latency: 287 ms
    Friday, August 28, 2009 06:55:55
At least it should be real unlimited.

HELLO is also offering a so called data unlimited plan for 63$ a month, postpaid. But you can read at their website…. hello 3G mobile broadband service fair usage data limit is set at 2Gb. Beyond this limit you will experience less than broadband speed.
So its only 2Gb a month “3G” speed and after that i guess its going the be 56kbps. So it’s not unlimited 3G!!

    Cellcard, qb: all not unlimited

I also use ONILNE at home since 2 years and I’m happy with it, at least about the speed which is 512 daytime and 1024 nighttime. The drawback is the 300Mb daytime limit a Month. From 7p.m till 7a.m and Friday 7p.m till Monday 7a.m it’s unlimited. For this I pay 107$

So internet still sucks in Cambodia but I can see that the prices slowly going down but still, if you need a connection with at least 512kbps AND unlimted usage (around the clock) you don’t get that below 200$

  28. Richard Says:

Kbits and kbytes are not the same.

    64 kbits = 8 kytes per sec
    128 kbits = 16 kbytes per sec
    256 kbits = 32 kbytes per sec
    512 kbits = 64 kbytes per sec
    1024 kbits (1 mbit) = 128 kbytes per sec
    2048 kbits (2 mbit) = 256 kbytes per sec

its 1024 kbytes in on megabyte.

kb = kbytes and NOT kbites

it gos b/kb/mb/gb/tb and so on.

http://www.ezecome.com.km is good the price just dropt also. i pay 85 usd whit wiamax modem and get 128 kbytes day time aka 16 kbits and 512 kbyes (nighte time) aka 64 kbytes (its more like 60-62 kbytes) this is also unlimted. i download about 60 gb a mounte.

metphone got cheap internet (but i tink its just shit)

    128 kbits unlimted 24/7 30 or 35 usd.
    256 kbits unlimted 24/7 110 usd
    1024 mbits unlimted 24/7 is 260 usd.

i am realy happy whit ezecom now. but i whant 512 kbits or more 24/7 unlimted. so borin if you whant to sell your sim or know sombody that dos send me email.

  29. Richard Says:

Do i just need a old sim card to get on cellcard unlimted ? or do i need to get a sim card all ready subcribe to the unlimted deal ?

  38. Ho Chai Hok Says:

My metphone internet service was down yesterday. I called their service people yesterday before noon, they promised me they will call me and arrange for the service soon. Today I called them for more than 10 times, no one turn up. They pass the line from one to another. they said they will send someone to come, very soon. Some even said their technical people will call me within one hour. Most of their staff do not speak English, I hope i got them right.
My local staff and friends who speak Khmer help to call them too. I believed they know my problem.
I do not know when they will come, but their people keep on saying that they are very busy as they have a lot of new subscribers.
I try to call their main line, but it seems none in the office can speak English.
Can someone help to pass the message to them:
    1. Employ some staff who can speak English.
    2. Not to give promises if can’t deliver,
    3. Do not let customers to wait for 2 weeks for the new internet service instalation.

  39. borin.nhek Says:

  41. Kevin Says:

Just wanna share my experience with Hello Broadband.

I’ve been using it for 3 months now. The first 2GB of usage comes with a speed of about 700Kbs, and the speed after that is about 256Kbs. It’s not too bad for 70$/month, though sometimes it can get quite unstable, but so far, it hasn’t given me too much trouble. fairly satisfied with it, but I’d prefer a faster speed with that kind of price. So I was thinking of switching to Excell, but according to the posts above, Excell Mobile Broadband doesn’t seem to be any better than Hello, except for the price.
Though I heard from the staff that if used near the base station, the Excell Mobile Broadband is quite fast, can anyone here confirm that?

  42. Dothan Says:

Hi, with the excellent valuable information from the helpful members here, I wish to ask some questions:

Cellcard has the blackberry ( BB)unlimited. Will this be the same download upload speeds as the older cellcard unlimited?

Can I buy the blackberry plan unlimited and use a HSDPA dongle and ditch the blackberry? I checked the sales lady in Cellcard, but she said this plan is for BB,(I am not so convinced) but i can use my own BB device?

I switched to Digi cable internet, around Kampuchea Krom Blvd area. $29 dollar and no upfront fees required. Quite ok and reliable. At 128kbps. TV streaming is totally impossible. And I tried the HELLO, at 512kbps, TV streaming is also unwatchable. MFone is fast, TV streaming is excellent but downside is it is expensive to subscribe.
