Internet in Cambodia is a premium service, not any one can afford to have internet connection. Although it is still expensive, the price comes down recently. 3.5G HSDPA technology has made mobile internet available in Cambodia. Nowadays there are two plan for unlimited mobile internet:
The 3G coverage by Cube is based on UMTS standard that provides the maximum speed of 384kbps. Recently I’ve read the news says that Cube 3G is based on W-CDMA standard. In theory the network speed can be up to 7.2mbps, but the company claimed that currently the network speed is at 1.6mbps. At this speed Cube will become the second ISP to provider affordable high-speed mobile internet. However, I’ve been trying to use my cousin’s sim card to test the speed; the link was still unstable to tell the correct speed.

I am one of the few users who can get the 3.5g mobile with unlimited data plan in Phnom Penh. The only 3.5g based on HSDPA, an upgraded version from 3g (UMTS) is deployed by CamGSM—Cellcard. After upgrading my modem, I can feel the real speed with my connection. According to the speedtest.net result, most of the time the download speed reached 2.2mbps. Although the 3.6mbps did not reach as advertised, the 2.2mbps is considerable the fastest affordable internet connection in Cambodia.
Unfortunately for new subscriber, there is no unlimited data plan available. I hope the soon the unlimited data plan will comeback again.
